Mary teaches workshops for mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, traditional American guitar styles, traditional song, and concertina (D/G). Mary also conducts participatory workshops in Appalachian play parties.
Lecture topics that Mary covers includes shape notes, Appalachian balladry, Baptist song history, Appalachian protest music, case studies on traditional Appalachian musicians and artists, and Appalachian material culture specializing in traditional basketry.
